Fill in your security system's components below and find out the correct battery needed for your requirements. If your alarm system does not last the time indicated, consider replacing the back-up battery:
IMPORTANT:
A 12V 7Amp/hr battery rating means that the battery can provide power to a load of 7Amps for one hour.
Different type batteries with the same rating, i.e. 12V 7Amp Lead-Acid, 12V 7amp Gel, 12V 7Amp Lithium-ion WOULD EACH give you a similar run time whilst the main power supply is off.
Each security system will have a different load, depending on the number of detectors, keypads, radio link type, does it activate when the power is off etc.
Stand-by time of a battery is calculated by dividing the rated Amp/hr by the load drawn.
Install a lead-acid, gel or lithium battery?
Although a Lithium-ion battery is a superior product, NOT ALL SECURITY SYSTEMS provide a sufficient charge to charge a Lithium-ion battery.
A Lithium-ion battery MAY NOT run your system for longer, when compared to a similar rated Lead-Acid or Gel battery.
A Lithium-ion battery WILL be able to take a recharge in a shorter time, be able to withstand a full discharge better, and as a result has a longer lifespan.

An average alarm panel is designed to be equiped with a 7Amp/hr battery and charges the battery at a rate of 0.7Amp per hour.
Installing a battery rated higher than 7Amp/Hr requires a higher rated charger.
